Family Night Begins Again

Dear Family:

Just a reminder that “Family Night” will meet again tonight.  Dinner will be served from 5:45 pm – 6:30 pm, and Bible studies for children, youth, and adults will take place from 6:45 pm – 7:30 pm.  Confirmation classes will also meet again at 6:45 pm.  The adult class is going through the book, “gods at war,” and will be looking at Chapter 7.  Books are available in the church office if you do not have one.  The classes are stand alone gatherings, meaning you do not have to attend every Wednesday night to benefit from the discussion.  I look forward to seeing you tonight.

God’s Blessings,
Pastor Bill

Today is Ash Wednesday

Dear Family,

Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day in the season of Lent in which we remember the road that Jesus traveled for us that led to His suffering and death on a cross for our sins. We begin the season with two worship services tonight at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, with dinner being served between the services from 5:45 pm – 6:30 pm. Ashes will be placed on our foreheads tonight as a sign of sorrow for our sinfulness, but they will be placed in the shape of a cross as a sign of Jesus’ tremendous love for us. While our country today may be celebrating Valentine’s day, this day gives us a great opportunity to tell others about Jesus and the great love that He demonstrated for us through His death on the cross. No one in the history of our world has ever shown that kind of love for others. So as you give and receive valentine’s today, remember the cross of Christ – the greatest valentine gift of love the world has ever known.

In God’s Service,
Pastor Bill

Ash Wednesday Service

We will have two services on February 14th for Ash Wednesday.

Join us as we kick off the Lenten season with the “Signs of Lent” Worship Services. The season of Lent is a 40-day period in which we focus on the passion of Christ in preparation for Easter.  The season begins on Ash Wednesday, February 14, with a cross made with ashes on our foreheads as a sign of our sinfulness.  But the cross is also a sign of the gift of forgiveness that God gives to us in Jesus.  There are a lot of signs that we see in our lives that tell us what to do and there are signs that we will see during the season of Lent that show us the way to Christ.  In Wednesday’s service we will be reminded to make a U-Turn in our lives, turning away from our sins and turning back to God through Jesus.

Worship: 5:00 pm
Family Night Dinner: 5:45 pm
Worship: 7:00 pm (Nursery available)

Natalie Harris Called Home

Dear Family:

Natalie Harris, who usually attended our early service, was suddenly called home last week to live with Jesus in His heavenly kingdom.  There will be a memorial service for Natalie this Thursday, January 25, at 2:00pm at the church.  Everyone is invited to attend.  I invite you to pray the following prayer with me:

Heavenly Father, we give thanks for all the mercies You granted to Natalie during her earthly life, especially for calling her to faith in Jesus.  Comfort her family and friends as they mourn her death with the hope of the glorious resurrection and a happy reunion in heaven.  Amen.

In God’s Service,
Pastor Bill

11:00am: “Traditional Worship” – This service will involve traditional hymns on our organ along with our choir.

Communion will be served at all three services and Easter Breakfast will be served from 8:00am – 9:00am.  I look forward to celebrating Christ’s resurrection with you!

Holy Week

Dear Family:

As we continue through Holy Week and prepare for our Easter celebrations, we would like to invite you to our special Holy Week worship services listed below:

1) Thursday, April 13, at 7:00pm“Maundy Thursday.”  The word “maundy” is a Latin word that means “to mandate.”  In this service we will remember our Lord’s Last Supper with His disciples when He created or “mandated” Holy Communion.  We will also look at the crossroad of forgiveness as we receive Communion in the service, and end the service by stripping the altar as a reminder of when Jesus was stripped of His dignity as He was betrayed and arrested late that evening.

2) Friday, April 14, at 7:00pm“Good Friday Tenebre Service.”  The word “tenebre” means “darkness.”  In this service we will look at the crossroad of death, explained to us from John – the disciple who took care of Jesus’ mother after His death.  We will also focus on the events that led to Jesus’ crucifixion.  The lights will slowly be turned out during this service and we will leave in darkness and silence to contemplate our Lord’s suffering and death for us on the cross.

There will be no “Family Night” activities tonight, but we pray you will join us for these special worship services tomorrow and Friday as they will truly enhance your spiritual preparation for the joy of Easter morning.

In God’s Service,

Pastor Bill

Building to Serve Video

Dear Family:

As we prepare for Commitment Sunday on Sunday, March 19, I thought you would enjoy a video that was made for our Building To Serve campaign.  Here is the link to the video:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_2grNA4o-DDS2x2aEFTSWREeTA/view?usp=drive_web

I have mentioned several times that prayer is one of the most important parts of this campaign.  I will be praying for you this week as you consider making a sacrificial gift to Building To Serve.  There will be a special Prayer Marathon this Saturday, March 18, from Noon – 7:00pm.  Please feel free to come by the church anytime on Saturday afternoon to pray or contact John & Linda Miesch at eagleprod@mindspring.com to sign up for a specific time.  Signing up is very helpful in order for us to properly prepare for Saturday.

I hope you are enjoying the Lenten Devotional Booklet and it has been a joy seeing many of you at our Wednesday evening Lenten services.

In God’s Service,

Pastor Bill
