Weekend Worship and Bible Study Reminders

Hello Everyone,

If you have signed up to worship with us on Saturday at 5:00pm or Sunday at 10:00am, just a reminder that masks must be worn over your mouth and nose at all times, except when taking communion.  Also, we ask that everyone please use the hand sanitizing stations before entering the sanctuary.  These procedures are designed to make everyone feel comfortable and safe during worship, and we really appreciate your support with all of our worship guidelines during these challenging days.

We also have a new Adult Bible Study led by Rebekah titled, “Overcoming Anxiety” that we are offering every week on Mondays at 11:00am and 6:30pm during the month of August.  Anxiety can feel like a constricting snake slowly tightening around us until it is difficult to breathe. In recent weeks, the anxiety surrounding the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus has a hold on the whole world as people die, economies decline, and our lives change right before our eyes.

In this four-part series, Jonathan Pokluda speaks words of comfort and wisdom, to help Christians navigate the areas of life COVID-19 is affecting. During this series you’ll be encouraged in how to overcome anxiety in these troubling days and explore ways you can remain faithful to God and to others.

Sunday Online Worship

Dear Family:

Here are the links for Sunday’s worship service:

Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/HolyCrossClayton/

YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFWp14weSisxJFzEf7lGGUQ

We are continuing our sermon series on Sunday titled, “Order, Disorder, Reorder,” as we look how Jesus sent His disciples and all of us out into a sinful, hurting world to Share His Word and Live His Love.  The challenge for all followers of Jesus is great as we read in our Gospel lesson from Matthew 9:32-10:15 that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.  My sermon is titled, “Reaching A Divided Nation.”

God’s Blessings,

Pastor Bill

June Newsletter

Hello Everyone!

Here is your June newsletter.  By the way, if you have not picked up a Portals of Prayer devotional or an Our Daily Bread devotional you are welcome to stop by the church and we will be happy to give you one.  You do not even have to get out of your car as we would be happy to bring one to you when you pull up to the front door.  We are looking to have the final inspections done on the new building sometime next week, so we are almost finished.

God’s Blessings,

Pastor Bill

Scam Emails

Dear Family:

Many of you have received emails from someone or different people using my name over the past several months.  Please know that if you ever receive an unusual email asking for money or for you to contact me without any specifics, it is a scam.  You will also notice that all of the emails come from an email address that is not mine.  The only emails you will receive from me come from william.beyer@earthlink.net and william.beyer@holycrossclayton.com.  I report the scam emails when people receive them, but then another email address appears to be created with my name on it.  I am very sorry this is happening.  Thank you to all of you who have been bringing this to my attention and hopefully it will stop soon.

God’s Blessings,
Pastor Bill

PS – I usually sign all of my emails the same way (“God’s Blessings, Pastor Bill”) so if you see an email signed in a different way, it is probably a scam.

Worship for Sunday, May 24

Dear Family:

Here are the links for tomorrow’s worship service:

Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/HolyCrossClayton/

YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFWp14weSisxJFzEf7lGGUQ

I will be meeting with our church leaders this week to discuss plans for opening our facility again for public worship.  There are many things we will need to consider to insure proper safety measures are put in place.  I realize our government leaders may put out some conflicting information concerning churches, but as soon as we decide on a return date for public worship we will let you know.  We will also give plenty of notice before we open our doors again.   I realize we are all excited to get back together for worship, and I really appreciate your patience and support during this time of doing our services online.

Attached you will find the bulletin for tomorrow, Sunday, May 24.  I am preaching on John 17:1-11, focusing on how Jesus prayed for us and the privilege we have in sharing in His glory.

God’s Blessings,

Pastor Bill

Offerings

Dear Family:

Holy Cross has always been a very generous congregation, especially when it comes to meeting the needs of our members and people in our community.  During these unusual times, your offerings will enable our ministries to continue to provide spiritual care to everyone we meet.  However, since we have not been able to meet for worship at the church we have not been able to collect offerings over the past few weeks and I do not know when we will be able to collect them again in worship.

Therefore, there are three ways you can continue to give your offerings to the church:

1) You can mail your offerings to the church.  Several of you have done that over the past two weeks and it has helped us in many ways.

2) You can bring your offerings to the church.  Some of you have done that as we still have people at the church every day who can receive your offerings.

3) You may give your offerings electronically.  Several of you have been doing this for many years.  There are two ways you can give electronically:

  1.     A) To give online with your credit card, please go to the following link:

https://www.holycrossclayton.com/sharefaithgiving/

  1.     B) To have your offerings drafted from your checking or savings account on a recurring basis, please fill out the attached form (Click here: Joyful Response ) and bring it or mail it to the churchBJ Johns, our financial secretary, will then process this form for you.  There is no cost to you or the church when you use “Joyful Response” and you may change the amount or the frequency your offerings are given (weekly, monthly, etc.) at any time.

The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 16: “On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with one’s income…and give it as an offering to the Lord.”  While we are not able to meet in person for worship, our offerings are still needed to continue our ministries.  In fact, if we have any members with any urgent needs we want to make sure we can continue to meet those needs.  Please pray about what God may asking you to give for your offerings at this time.  If you have any questions please contact Cassy at the church office through email: cassy.welch@holycrossclayton.com or by phone: 919-553-4784 at any time.

God’s Blessings,
Pastor Bill

Live Stream of Sunday Worship

Hello Everyone,

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, our rock and refuge, our ever-present help in every time of trouble. These are times that try our souls, yet the book of Ecclesiastes reminds us that there is nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9). Still, this is new to us, and so we continue on under the weight and complexity of our circumstances.

Worship will be steamed again live at 8:30am tomorrow morning on Facebook at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/HolyCrossClayton/

Please know you do not need a Facebook account to watch the service on your computer. Just click the link on your computer and you will be able to see the service. If you are watching the service on your phone, you may need a Facebook account or the Facebook App. I will be preaching tomorrow on John 9:1-41. This is a story about a man who was born blind and the disciples want to know “Why did God allow this man to be born blind?” This is the kind of question we are asking these days with the COVID-19 virus: “Why did God allow this to happen?” I want to encourage you tomorrow that instead of asking that kind of question, let’s ask, “What good can God bring out of this situation?”

Since many churches will be streaming their worship services I am guessing that you may experience moments where your screen freezes or falls behind the audio. During those moments I would encourage you to be patient as the screen will often start moving again and will catch up. If you are still having problems, you can refresh your screen; or if you lose the feed (this happened to us last Wednesday night while we were filming and we had to start over) you can start over and click or enter the link again.

We will continue to stream the Sunday and Wednesday worship services using this link until further notice. Thank you for your patience and support at this time. We will go live tomorrow morning at about 8:25am with the camera focused on the cross above our altar and music in the background.

God’s Blessings,
Pastor Bill
