Easter Services

Dear Family:

We will have 3 worship services on Easter morning:

7:00am: “Sunrise Worship” – This service will begin outside in our memorial gardens at the front of the church under the “He Is Risen” plague.  After some Scripture readings, we will then move inside to the sanctuary for the rest of the service.

9:00am: “Praise & Worship” – This service will be led by our praise team with contemporary Christian music.

11:00am: “Traditional Worship” – This service will involve traditional hymns on our organ along with our choir.

Communion will be served at all three services and Easter Breakfast will be served from 8:00am – 9:00am.  I look forward to celebrating Christ’s resurrection with you!

In God’s Service,

Pastor Bill

Holy Week

Dear Family:

As we continue through Holy Week and prepare for our Easter celebrations, we would like to invite you to our special Holy Week worship services listed below:

1) Thursday, April 13, at 7:00pm“Maundy Thursday.”  The word “maundy” is a Latin word that means “to mandate.”  In this service we will remember our Lord’s Last Supper with His disciples when He created or “mandated” Holy Communion.  We will also look at the crossroad of forgiveness as we receive Communion in the service, and end the service by stripping the altar as a reminder of when Jesus was stripped of His dignity as He was betrayed and arrested late that evening.

2) Friday, April 14, at 7:00pm“Good Friday Tenebre Service.”  The word “tenebre” means “darkness.”  In this service we will look at the crossroad of death, explained to us from John – the disciple who took care of Jesus’ mother after His death.  We will also focus on the events that led to Jesus’ crucifixion.  The lights will slowly be turned out during this service and we will leave in darkness and silence to contemplate our Lord’s suffering and death for us on the cross.

There will be no “Family Night” activities tonight, but we pray you will join us for these special worship services tomorrow and Friday as they will truly enhance your spiritual preparation for the joy of Easter morning.

In God’s Service,

Pastor Bill

Building to Serve Video

Dear Family:

As we prepare for Commitment Sunday on Sunday, March 19, I thought you would enjoy a video that was made for our Building To Serve campaign.  Here is the link to the video:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_2grNA4o-DDS2x2aEFTSWREeTA/view?usp=drive_web

I have mentioned several times that prayer is one of the most important parts of this campaign.  I will be praying for you this week as you consider making a sacrificial gift to Building To Serve.  There will be a special Prayer Marathon this Saturday, March 18, from Noon – 7:00pm.  Please feel free to come by the church anytime on Saturday afternoon to pray or contact John & Linda Miesch at eagleprod@mindspring.com to sign up for a specific time.  Signing up is very helpful in order for us to properly prepare for Saturday.

I hope you are enjoying the Lenten Devotional Booklet and it has been a joy seeing many of you at our Wednesday evening Lenten services.

In God’s Service,

Pastor Bill

Building to Serve Update

Dear Family,

In 10 days, on

Sunday, March 19, we will make our commitments to the “Building To Serve” campaign as we bring our yellow commitment cards to worship with the goal of raising $1,000,000, over three years, towards the expansion of our facility.  You should have received the commitment card in a packet of information that you picked up from church or that was mailed to you last month.  Cards will be available at church this Sunday and next Sunday if you need one.

I am very excited to tell you that several leaders in the church are actively supporting this campaign by the fact that they agreed to make early commitments to the campaign as a way to encourage all of us.  This was demonstrated last Saturday, March 4, when 34 families in the congregation met at the church and turned in their commitment cards early.  We added up the commitments on the cards and the total came to over $456,000!!

This means that 34 families out of 250 families in the church (about 14% of the congregation) committed almost half of our goal.  I thank God for their generosity and their willingness to make an early sacrificial commitment to this campaign.  Just imagine now how God will use the rest of us to meet or even exceed our goal of $1,000,000.  Imagine being able to fund this entire expansion through our sacrificial gifts.

I realize we cannot all give the same amount, but as you have heard me say many times this campaign is about “equal sacrifice, not equal gifts.”  Therefore, every gift is important and has great value.  I have learned that when we all bring our gifts to God and trust Him to provide for us that He can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.

Please pray over the next 10 days how God will use you and your gifts to support our “Building To Serve” campaign.  I encourage you to pray the campaign prayer and to use the Lenten devotional booklets that were written by members of the church.  (If you did not pick up a devotional booklet at church, more will be available this Sunday.)

If you have any questions, please contact the church at any time.  As we prepare for worship this Sunday, please remember to turn your clocks ahead one hour on Saturday night.

In God’s Service,

Pastor Bill

Building to Serve

Dear Family:

This weekend we begin our Inspire phase of our

“Building To Serve” campaign with a new sermon series and adult Bible class.  The sermon series is titled, “Next Steps”

as we will consider the next steps of faith we will be taking in this process and the steps of faith that many people in Scripture took when they trusted God in the midst of some challenging situations.
The adult Bible study is titled,

“Living as Children of a Generous God.”

This study will look more closely at how our God is a generous giver and how we should respond to His generosity.
Every family will be receiving a packet of information about the

“Building To Serve” campaign after worship on Sunday.  The climax of our campaign will be Commitment Sunday – March 19.  There will be a special commitment celebration event that will take place that afternoon after worship at The Clayton Center.  At the celebration we will announce the total that was pledged to the “Building To Serve” campaign.  Tickets are needed for the free

celebration event and they will be given out on Sunday with your packets.  Tickets will be available each Sunday through the end of February.

God’s Blessings,

Pastor Bill

This Weekend

Dear Family:

Our “Building To Serve” prayer marathon will take place this

Saturday, January 14, from Noon – 7:00pm.  Everyone is invited to attend.  You may come at any time to pray for God’s guidance and blessings as we seek to expand our ministries as we grow in our faith.

The “Building To Serve” campaign will move into a new phase this Sunday, January 15, during worship as we seek to inform the congregation more about the opportunities God is giving to us to grow our ministries so that more people will know Jesus as their Savior.

Also, if you are interested in becoming a member of Holy Cross, new member classes will begin this Sunday, January 15, at 9:45am in the classroom near Pastor Tom’s old office.

I look forward to seeing everyone again in worship this Sunday.

God’s Blessings,

Pastor Bill
